ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods and treatment process of the patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma complicated with human coronavirus(HCoV)-HKU1 pneumonia and improve the clinical medical staff's awareness of the disease, and to reduce the occurrence of clinical adverse events. Method(s): The clinical data of a patient with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma complicated with HCoV-HKU1 pneumonia with hot flashes and night sweats, dry cough and dry throat as the main clinical features who were hospitalized in the hospital in January 2021 were analyzed, and the relevant literatures were reviewed and the clinical manifestations and diagnosis of HCoV-HKU1 were analyzed. Result(s): The female patient was admitted to the hospital due to diagnosed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for more than 2 months. The physical examination results showed Karnofsky score was 90 points;there was no palpable enlargement of systemic superfical lymph nodes;mild tenderness in the right lower abdomen, no rebound tenderness, and slightly thicker breath sounds in both lungs were found, and a few moist rales were heard in both lower lungs. The chest CT results showed diffuse exudative foci in both lungs, and the number of white blood cells in the urine analysis was 158 muL-1;next generation sequencing technique(NGS) was used the detect the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and HCoV-HKU1 pneumonia was diagnosed. At admission, the patient had symptoms such as dull pain in the right lower abdomen, nighttime cough, and night sweats;antiviral treatment with oseltamivir was ineffective. After treatment with Compound Sulfamethoxazole Tablets and Lianhua Qingwen Granules, the respiratory symptoms of the patient disappeared. The re-examination chest CT results showed the exudation was absorbed. Conclusion(s): The clinical symptoms of the patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma complicated with HCoV-HKU1 pneumonia are non-specific. When the diffuse shadow changes in the lungs are found in clinic, and the new coronavirus nucleic acid test is negative, attention should still be paid to the possibility of other HCoV infections. The NGS can efficiently screen the infectious pathogens, which is beneficial to guide the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary infectious diseases more accurately.Copyright © 2023 Jilin University Press. ABSTRACT

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID - 19)is an acute viral disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS - CoV - 2)infection and is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract. It not only invades the respiratory system of human body, but also damages various organs and systems. Evidence has shown that there may be a causal association between SARS - CoV - 2 and spontaneous splenic rupture. This article recognizes the possibility of SARS - CoV - 2 - associated spontaneous splenic rupture and discusses its pathogenesis and related diagnosis and treatment regimens, so as to avoid missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis in clinical practice.Copyright © 2022 by the Author(s).

As important combat platforms, large warships have the characteristics of compact internal space and dense personnel. Once infectious diseases occur, they are very easy to spread. Therefore, it is very important to select suitable forecasting models for infectious diseases in this environment. ABSTRACT

Covid-19 has brought about the development of the use of technological applications and initiatives to control the situation. The aim was to effectively monitor and eventually treat patients and facilitate the efforts of medical staff. This paper is the result of research into the possibilities of solving the problems caused by the Covid-19 pandemic by applying selected logistics technologies. The paper provides a new perspective on technologies and discusses possibilities for future research. The goal of the study is based on relevant existing research which examines in detail how five selected technologies can help in the fight against the pandemic. It defines the potential practical application of these technologies in the context of threats to public health. The main findings of this paper concern the application of logistics technologies considering these essential factors. The research characterizes the problems associated with using the proposed technologies, such as costs, time, legislative constraints, safety, and ethics. Proposals for the practical application of logistics technologies in solving pandemic-related problems must accept not only the legal framework but also the socio-ethical dilemmas that these technologies present. © 2023 Vladimír Klapita et al.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: Interception therapy requires an individual to take a treatment today to prevent a future medical event. Patients must trade off treatment burdens incurred today against future benefits. We examined the preferences of high-risk lung cancer (LC) individuals for potential interception therapies that reduce the risk of developing lung cancer. Method(s): An online discrete-choice experiment (DCE) was developed for hypothetical LC interception treatments with four attributes: reduction in risk of LC over 3 years, injection site reaction severity, nonfatal serious infection risk, and death from serious infection risk. Respondents chose between two alternative treatments or a no-treatment option. The DCE was analyzed using random-parameters logit, and maximum acceptable risk for an LC risk reduction was calculated. Logit analysis explored characteristics of respondents who always selected no treatment. Result(s): The sample included 803 adults aged 50-80 years with at least a 20 pack-year smoking history. Respondents had an average willingness to accept interception therapy (alternative-specific constant=1.30, 95% CI: 0.91-1.69). Respondents viewed larger reductions in the risk of LC as most important. Respondents were willing to accept increases in risk of nonfatal serious infection up to 15% for a 15% improvement in relative LC risk reduction and increases in risk of death from serious infection up to 1.5% for a 23% improvement in relative LC risk reduction. However, 16% of respondents selected 'no treatment' for all DCE questions. Older respondents, current smokers who have never tried to quit, and those who did not get regular skin exams for cancer and/or COVID-19 vaccine were more likely to opt out of interception therapy. Conclusion(s): Generally, individuals at high risk of LC are willing to consider interception therapy. Study results can support benefit-risk assessments for future systemic LC interception treatments, and the results may have implications for other therapeutic areas.Copyright © 2023

ABSTRACT

Herein, refined LaxCa0.89-xSr0.11MnO3 (LCSMO, x = 0.65, 0.68, 0.71 and 0.74) films were prepared through the sol-gel spin-coating. The influence of La3+ content on the structural properties of LCSMO films was investigated by X-ray diffraction and Atomic force microscope, demonstrating that LCSMO films can grow well on SrTiO3 (00l) substrate. Besides, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy verified the double exchange (DE) effect was weakened with La3+ dopant. The La3+ doping and interconnected grains boundaries (GBs) led to the weakening DE effect and GBs scattering, respectively. Due to superior GBs connectivity, the resistivity of LCSMO films was less than 7.1 x 10(-4) Omega.cm at low temperature of 100 K. Importantly, it is an effective control method to keep the temperature (T-k) corresponding to temperature coefficient of resistivity (TCR) at room temperature with Sr2+ content as constant in LCSMO films. At x = 0.71, the peak TCR value was found to be 8.84%/K and corresponding T-k was 283.15 K. These results are beneficial for advanced application of uncooling infrared bolometer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigated the in vitro antiviral activity of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine sulfate against different variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (Prototype, Beta, Delta, Omicron) by changing the sequence of drug and virus introduction. Methods Prophylactic treatment: Vero E6 cells were treated with Chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine sulfate (200.00, 150.00, 100.00, 50.00, 16.70, 5.55, 1.85, 0.62, 0.21 micromol.L-1) for 1 h, then the virus was added and incubated for another 2 h. The virus-drug mixture was repalced with fresh medium until the end of the experiment. Post-entry treatment: Vero E6 cells were incubated with virus for 2 h, then the virus was removed and the cells were cultured with drug-containing medium until the end of the experiment. Full-time treatment: Vero E6 cells were pretreated with the drug for 1 h ahead, then virus was added and incubated for another 2 h. The virus-drug mixture was discarded and the cells were cultured with drug-containing medium until the end of the experiment. After 72 h of culture, the cells were observed to see whether they became round and shed to determine the cytopathic situation, and the semi-maximum effect concentration (EC50) and drug selection index (SI) were calculated. Results Both drugs were less effective in preventing SARS-CoV-2. Chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine sulfate showed good antiviral activity under both therapeutic and full-time treatment. EC50 of hydroxychloroquine sulfate was less than chloroquine, SI was greater than chloroquine, antiviral effect of hydroxychloroquine sulfate was better than chloroquine. The antiviral effect of chloroquine (EC50 = 0.904 micromol.L-1) and hydroxychloroquine sulfate (EC50 = 0.143 micromol.L-1) was more significant against Omicron variant than other variants under therapeutic and full-time treatment conditions. Conclusion Chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine sulfate showed good antiviral activity under both therapeutic and full-time treatment, and both drugs were significantly more active against the Omicron variant than the other variants.Copyright © 2023 Authors. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore potential categories of parental social support for young parents under the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic, and to examine correlations of different types of parents' social support with parental burnout. METHOD(S): In April 2020, we conducted an online voluntary survey among young parents across China with scales and a self-designed questionnaire. The latent profile analysis method was used to analyze parents' received social support and perceived social support. The social support categories were taken as independent variables and parental burnout as dependent variables, and multiple regression analysis was carried out to explore the relationship between received social support, perceived social support and parental burnout. Finally, the moderating effect of resilience between social support groups and parental burnout was discussed. RESULT(S): The results of latent profile analysis revealed three potential types of received social support, namely isolate, normal, and multi-support and the proportions of the respondents with the three profiles were 14.1%, 78.0%, and 7.9%. Four potential types of perceived social support, namely, indigent, medium, affluent and divergent and the proportions of the respondents with the four profiles were 13.7%, 29.6%, 25.3%, and 31.3%. Among them, the parents with divergent perceived social support had more perception of social support from the couple, family and relatives, but less perception of social support from net-friend, social organizations and the government. Regression analysis showed that there was no statistically significant correlation between different profiles of received social support and parental burnout, and among the groups of perceived social support, there was a statistically significant correlation between indigent and divergent types of social support and parental burnout. The divergent parents had lower levels of parental burnout compared with indigent (beta=-0.120, P=0.003). Also, resilience moderated the effect of divergent perceived social support and parental burnout. Compared with the parents with low resilience, the parents with high resilience perceived divergent social support with lower parenting burnout. CONCLUSION(S): There are prominent latent types of received social support and perceived social support under epidemic. People with divergent perceived social support (more perceived supports from partner, family and friends) are prone to have a relatively lower risk of parental burnout. Parents with higher resilience will be more sensitive to the support of close acquaintances, and can better resist parental burnout.

ABSTRACT

Introduction Since the onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), stay-at-home orders and fear caused by the pandemic have had a significant effect on the timing and outcomes of testicular torsion. However, the evidence was limited since the study results were inconsistent. This study aims to examine the hospitalization rates, timing, and outcomes of testicular torsion in children before and during the pandemic. Materials and Methods Using PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar databases, we conducted a systematic search and meta-analysis of studies reporting the timing and outcomes of children admitted with testicular torsion before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore possible sources of heterogeneity. Result The outcomes of 899 testicular torsion patients from eight studies were evaluated. Our study found an increased hospitalization rate for patients with testicular torsion (incidence rate ratio = 1.60, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.27-2.03;p = 0.001). Despite a significant increase in the duration of symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic (weighted mean difference = 11.04, 95% CI: 2.75-19.33;p = 0.009), orchiectomy rates did not increase (odds ratio = 1.33, 95% CI: 0.85-2.10;p = 0.147). Conclusion During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitalization rates for testicular torsion and the duration of symptoms among children increased significantly. Moreover, the rate of orchiectomy did not increase during the pandemic, indicating that pediatric emergency services have remained efficient and have prevented an increase in the number of orchiectomies performed despite pandemic-related closures and delays in transporting patients to medical care.

ABSTRACT

We examine the high-frequency intraday return and volatility transmission between crude oil futures prices and exchange rates during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic in the context of two markets: the newly established renminbi-denominated Shanghai International Energy Exchange in China and the US-dollar-denominated Brent market in the United Kingdom. By controlling for the influence of the stock markets, our findings reveal significant disparities in return linkages, yet fairly comparable volatility transmission patterns. The International Energy Exchange shows no return linkages with exchange rates except before the shock, while Brent consistently shows return spillovers from crude oil futures prices to exchange rates. In both markets, the volatility spillovers from exchange rates to crude oil futures prices are unidirectional prior to the shock but become bidirectional as a result of the shock. Nevertheless, both the return and volatility spillover patterns in China resemble those in the United Kingdom when utilizing offshore instead of onshore exchange rates. Such similarities in return and volatility spillovers can also be observed during the 2022 Covid-19 shock that emerged in Shanghai. As one of important means of cancer treatment, radiotherapy has become an important alternative to surgery during the epidemic of COVID-19. The radiotherapy department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital ensured the smooth development of radiotherapy work on the setup of prevention and control systems for COVID-19 by establishing admission strategies for cancer patients, disinfection, isolation, daily management measures, scientific exploration, and clinical practice. ABSTRACT

Wearing masks is an easy way to operate and popular measure for preventing epidemics. Although masks can slow down the spread of viruses, their efficacy in gathering environments involving heterogeneous person-to-person contacts remains unknown. Therefore, we aim to investigate the epidemic prevention effect of masks in different real-life gathering environments. This study uses four real interpersonal contact datasets to construct four empirical networks to represent four gathering environments. The transmission of COVID-19 is simulated using the Monte Carlo simulation method. The heterogeneity of individuals can cause mask efficacy in a specific gathering environment to be different from the baseline efficacy in general society. Furthermore, the heterogeneity of gathering environments causes the epidemic prevention effect of masks to differ. Wearing masks can greatly reduce the probability of clustered epidemics and the infection scale in primary schools, high schools, and hospitals. However, the use of masks alone in primary schools and hospitals cannot control outbreaks. In high schools with social distancing between classes and in workplaces where the interpersonal contact is relatively sparse, masks can meet the need for prevention. Given the heterogeneity of individual behavior, if individuals who are more active in terms of interpersonal contact are prioritized for mask-wearing, the epidemic prevention effect of masks can be improved. Finally, asymptomatic infection has varying effects on the prevention effect of masks in different environments. The effect can be weakened or eliminated by increasing the usage rate of masks in high schools and workplaces. However, the effect on primary schools and hospitals cannot be weakened. This study contributes to the accurate evaluation of mask efficacy in various gathering environments to provide scientific guidance for epidemic prevention. © 2022, Higher Education Press.

ABSTRACT

[Background] The epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) seriously affects the psychological status of medical staff who directly face the risk of the disease. [Objective] This study investigates the prevalence and related factors of depression, anxiety, and insomnia among medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. [Methods] From February 13 to March 1, 2020, a network questionnaire survey was conducted among 482 medical staff selected by convenience sampling. A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the basic demographic information and COVID-19-related questions. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) were used to estimate the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and insomnia among the medical staff. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis was performed with PHQ-9 score, GAD-7 score, and ISI score as dependent variables. Multivariate logistic regression analysis (forward-conditional method) on depression, anxiety, and insomnia as dependent variables was performed with basic demographic information and COVID-19-related questions as independent variables. [Results] Among the surveyed medical staff, the prevalence rates of depression, anxiety, and insomnia were 14.3%, 11.2%, and 23.2%, respectively. There were no significant differences in the prevalence rates among different age, gender, local risk level, and occupation groups and those aiding Hubei Province or not. The medical staff who directly contacted fever or diagnosed patients had more serious depression (b=1.73, 95%CI: 0.79-2.66) and insomnia (b=2.43, 95%CI: 1.48-3.39) and a higher risk of insomnia (OR=1.89, 95%CI: 1.21-2.96). The medical staff whose current protective measures cannot prevent infection had more serious depression (b=1.72, 95% CI: 0.65-2.80), anxiety (b=1.75, 95% CI: 0.76-2.75), and insomnia (b=1.73, 95% CI: 0.63-2.82), and had a higher risk of depression (OR=1.97, 95% CI: 1.11-3.49), anxiety (OR=3.00, 95%CI: 1.64-5.46), and insomnia (OR=1.79, 95%CI: 1.08-2.96). [Conclusion] During the COVID-19 epidemic, the risks of depression, anxiety, and insomnia among selected medical staff are increased compared with the non-epidemic period. With the continuous development of the sensory experience urban tourism, soundscape perception has become of importance. Taking the Qianmen Avenue, a typical historical block in the Central Axis of Beijing Old City as a case study, this paper presents an analysis of the objective soundscape features just after the first climax of the COVID-19 in January 2021. Based on the model of "acoustical parameters - classifications - extraction of the keynote and signal and soundmark - SPL mapping", the case study shows that although the soundscapes of Qianmen Avenue are complex and changeable with a LAeq from 55dB to 90dB, the noisy keynotes are combined with the sales' broadcasting, loudspeakers, tourists and traffic noise;natural sounds are rarely perceived;the warning bells of passing trams are extremely loud and harsh, causing great disturbance to tourists;no clearly identifiable soundmark has been found;and there is no obvious regularity in the spatial distribution in the SPL mapping. Apart from the architectural features and recently painted murals, the soundscape is far away from the "Culture-enriched Beijing” related content that the public perceives it carries. And due to the COVID-19, an epidemic broadcasting is added as a possible signal or soundmark. © ICA 2022.All rights reserved

ABSTRACT

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has spread worldwide and threatened human's health. With the passing of time, the epidemiology of coronavirus disease 2019 evolves and the knowledge of SARS-CoV-2 infection accumulates. To further improve the scientific and standardized diagnosis and treatment of maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection in China, the Chinese Society of Perinatal Medicine of Chinese Medical Association commissioned leading experts to develop the Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Maternal SARS-CoV-2 Infection under the guidance of the Maternal and Child Health Department of the National Health Commission. This recommendations includes the epidemiology, diagnosis, management, maternal care, medication treatment, care of birth and newborns, and psychological support associated with maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection. Background With the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), nurses have won well-deserved recog-nition for their indispensable roles in providing humane and professional healthcare for patients. However, by the nature of their role working at the forefront of patient care, nurses are prone to experiencing mental health conse-quences. Therefore, we pay attention to measuring the magnitude of psychological symptoms and identifying associ-ated factors among nurses in China.Methods We launched a nationwide, cross-sectional survey of nurses who worked in secondary or tertiary hospitals and public or private hospitals from 30 provinces in China. The prevalence and severity of symptoms of burnout, depression, and anxiety were investigated, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with each psychological symptom.Findings A total of 138 279 respondents who worked in 243 hospitals completed this survey. A substantial propor-tion of nurses reported symptoms of burnout (34%), depression (55.5%), and anxiety (41.8%). In line with the dispro-portionality of economic development, we noted that the middle or western region was an independent risk factor for depression and anxiety. Compared with those working in the secondary hospital, nurses who worked in tertiary hospitals were associated with a higher likelihood of burnout and depression.Interpretation Nurses are experiencing emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion during the COVID-19 epidemic. ABSTRACT

Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by severe itching accompanied by multiple nodules throughout the body. There is currently no efective drug-targeted treatment for PN. Dupilumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody which can suppress the Th2 inflammatory reaction. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of dupilumab in PN. There were 29 PN patients who received dupilumab treatment for four months. Serum total immunoglobulin E (Ig E), eosinophil counts, dermatology life quality index (DLQI), and numeric rating scale (NRS) were assessed on patients before and after treatment. We count the vaccination of novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) in patients and the impact on PN and treatment measures after vaccination. Plotting was performed using GraphPad Prism8, and the statistical analysis was performed using PASW Statistics18. The eosinophil counts in patients higher decreased to normal, and the Ig E levels gradually decreased and tended to normal levels after receiving dupilumab injection. The average DLQI score at the baseline was 23.93 +/- 0.66 and decreased to 11.66 +/- 0.55 (P < 0.01) and 1.83 +/- 0.22 (P < 0.01) at 1-month and 6-monthfollow-up of treatment, respectively. The average NRS score at the baseline was 9.79 +/- 0.08 and decreased to 3.52 +/- 0.23 (P < 0.01) and 0.31 +/- 0.15 (P < 0.01) at the 1-month and 6monthfollow-up of treatment, respectively. Our study shows that dupilumab has achieved good efficacy in PN with few adverse reactions and high safety. We can recommend that patients follow the advice of specialists to be vaccinated and under the condition of stable disease, separated from dupilumab treatment for one week.
